Dyrektor Tomasz Kosecki składa życzenia z okazji Dnia Kobiet

On March 8 and 9, 2024, the Polish Aviation Museum hosted Aviation Women’s Day, during which the vernissage of the exhibition “Women in Polish Aviation” took place, accompanied by inspiring meetings with women in aviation: both experienced female pilots and those who are just beginning their adventure with flying. Many women associated with aviation also sat in the audience — we were delighted to welcome, among others, Ms. Hanna Badura, a pilot born in 1924, a legend of the Polish aviation community.

To emphasize the uniqueness of Aviation Women’s Day, all women participating in the event were presented with flowers and wishes for happiness and prosperity — extended personally by Director Tomasz Kosecki. This kind gesture brought many smiles to the faces of our guests. We hope that every woman who visited us on those days felt truly special.

The event began with Friday’s vernissage of the exhibition “Women in Polish Aviation.” Director Tomasz Kosecki welcomed the numerous guests and speakers, including well-known aviation figures such as: Ms. Adela Dankowska, multiple gliding world record holder; Ms. Jolanta Przybylak, parachutist and glider pilot; and Ms. Mirosława Schneider-Rachwał, former vice-champion of Poland in rally-navigation flying. Talks were also given by representatives of the Kraków Aero Club: Roman Matyjewicz, and Gabriela Hałoń and Daria Bebak. Lt. Marzena Dudaryk from the 8th Kraków Air Transport Base spoke about working in the Medical Evacuation Team, and Dr. Magdalena Berkowicz talked about the life and service of Stefania Wojtulanis-Karpowicz.

After the talks, all guests were invited to the Main Hangar, where a curator-guided tour of the exhibition took place. The exhibition curator, Ms. Ewa Cuber-Strutyńska, spoke about the concept of the exhibition and individual exhibits.

On the second day of the Women’s Day celebrations, everyone who came to our museum had the opportunity to listen to inspiring stories about the work of women in various branches of aviation — from military aviation, through commercial aviation, to experiences in gliding and parachuting. Katarzyna Pietrzak from the Poznań Aero Club presented the history of the aero club’s patroness, Wanda Modlibowska. Then Capt. Pilot Paulina Szkudlarz offered a perspective on working in military aviation, while LOT Polish Airlines Captains Katarzyna Gojny and Gabriela Drożdż spoke about their experience in civil aviation. Gabriela Hałoń and Daria Bebak from the Kraków Aero Club shared the story of their first steps in aviation, and to conclude, Pilot Senior Constable Barbara Wilk shared her experiences from serving in police aviation.

Meetings with women in aviation were not the only attractions we offered to our Saturday visitors. For those interested, we organized an additional guided tour of the “Women in Polish Aviation” exhibition. Young people and families took part in an aviation-themed field game dedicated to women in aviation. Educational workshops were prepared for the youngest, and all guests could take a photo in our aero photo booth, dressed as a pilot. The Aviation Women’s Day celebrations concluded with a rousing concert by the Kraków Old Town Orchestra conducted by Wiesław Olejniczak.
