Report from the 81st Anniversary of Allied Airdrops for the Home Army in Słopnice

DURATION:13 / 07 / 2025 - 13 / 07 / 2025

On Sunday, 13 July 2025, on the slopes of Dzielec Hill in Słopnice, a ceremonial commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Allied supply drops for the Home Army took place. As every year, the Polish Aviation Museum had the honour and privilege of participating in this exceptional event, which is not only a local ceremony but, above all, a living history lesson.

The event commemorated the heroism of Polish underground soldiers and the courage of Allied airmen who, during World War II, risked their own lives to support the structures of the Polish Underground State. It was also recalled that it was precisely on the night of 9–10 July 1944 that the first successful drops of weapons, uniforms and equipment for Home Army soldiers reached the Limanowa area.

One of the highlights of the event was the flyover of our Museum’s flying exhibit – the Yak-18 aircraft, which soared above Dzielec, paying symbolic tribute to all the airmen involved in the Allied supply drop missions.

On the ground, from 9:30 to 16:00, our promotional and educational stand was in operation. Visitors could talk with Museum staff about aviation history, browse our publications and souvenirs, and the youngest participants eagerly took part in workshops and activities prepared especially for them.

We also proudly presented a preview of upcoming events at our Museum – above all, the opening of the new permanent exhibition “With the Wind and Against the Wind – Civil Aviation” and Polish Aviation Day, which will take place on 24 August.

We thank everyone who visited our stand and joined us in honouring the memory of the heroes. Being present in such a historic place is not only paying tribute to the past, but also strengthening the memory and identity of successive generations.
