On the occasion of two important anniversaries connected with the history of Polish civil aviation – the 100th anniversary of the first air connection on the Warsaw–Kraków–Vienna route and the 60th anniversary of the airport’s relocation from Rakowice-Czyżyny to Balice – the premiere of the documentary film “Kraków’s Aviation Window to the World” took place at our Museum.
The film, directed by Bogusław Sławiński, tells the fascinating story of the development of Kraków’s civil aviation – from historic flights from the grounds of the present-day Museum, the former Rakowice-Czyżyny airfield, to the modern face of Kraków-Balice Airport. It is not only a story about aircraft and runways, but above all about the people thanks to whom Kraków became an important point on the map of European air transport.
The production was created on the initiative of the NZS 1980 Association as part of the Filmoteka Małopolska programme, carried out by the Małopolska Cultural Centre SOKÓŁ and funded from the budget of the Małopolska Voivodeship.
The screening was a wonderful opportunity to jointly recall the groundbreaking moments in the history of Kraków’s aviation and to look at aviation as an element of heritage and modernity. Before the screening, a short meeting with the film’s creators took place.
