100th Anniversary of the Eaglets’ School

DATE:08 / 04 / 2026

The Polish Aviation Museum invites you to a unique exhibition presented on the occasion of the centenary of the Eagle Cadets School (Szkola Orlat) — one of the most important institutions in the history of Polish military aviation. The exhibition was prepared in cooperation with the Air Force Academy and constitutes a significant museum event, showcasing the heritage, tradition, and extraordinary fates of generations of Polish pilots.

The exhibition “100th Anniversary of the Eagle Cadets School” presents unique, rarely shown artefacts documenting the history and achievements of the School from its establishment in 1925 to the present day. The collected artefacts allow visitors to trace the development of Polish aviation training, the fates of its graduates, and their contribution to building the prestige of Polish wings.

Among the exhibits are:

  • documents of the first commandant of the school, Col. pilot Roman Florer, including a letter of appointment from April 1925 and a certificate awarding the Gold Cross of Merit,
  • memorabilia of distinguished pilots — such as Lt. Col. pilot Karol Pniak or Col. pilot Wladyslaw Gnys — whose achievements became part of world aviation history,
  • exhibits related to the pioneers of Polish aviation, including memorabilia of Col. pilot Zofia Dziewiszek-Andrychowska, one of the first women trained at the Eagle Cadets School,
  • materials documenting the post-war fates of graduates, including memorabilia of Col. pilot Zbigniew Sobenko and contemporary commanders of the Polish Air Force, illustrating the continuity of this unique heritage.

Why visit?

The exhibition is an important part of the centenary celebrations of the Eagle Cadets School. It is one of the rare opportunities to see such an extensive and diverse collection of archival materials, personal memorabilia, and artefacts that are not normally accessible to the public. The exhibition highlights the significance of the Eagle Cadets School in Polish history, its influence on the development of aviation, and the exceptional nature of the service performed by its graduates, past and present.

The exhibition is displayed on the mezzanine of the Main Hangar of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow.

It can be visited from 12 December 2025 to 12 June 2026.
