The National Art Competition The Magic of Flight takes place as part of International Children’s Day. The event was conceived by Stanisław Szarek — an artist, educator, and Knight of the Order of the Smile. The competition is addressed to children who, together with family members, a school group, or a neighbourhood group, can create an artwork illustrating the topic: What would witches fly on today? At the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow, the works of this year’s laureates were on display until 14 November 2024.
On 2 August 2024, at the headquarters of the Małopolska Culture Centre SOKOL in Nowy Sącz, which, together with the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow and the Pedagogical Provincial Library in Nowy Sącz, co-organizes the competition, a jury convened to determine this year’s winners and honourable mentions. Under the chairmanship of Nowy Sącz artist Stanisław Szarek, the jury selected the 32 best works from 273 entries submitted from across Poland.
The selection was very difficult, as the artistic level was high. After lengthy discussions, the jury awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes in two categories: family work and group work. The jury also decided to award honourable mentions in both categories — the official announcement stated.
On 13 September 2024, at the Mjr. pil. Jerzy Iszkowski Primary School in Tęgoborze, our Museum had the pleasure of participating in the award ceremony for the competition winners. We conducted workshops for children, during which they could assemble their own wooden model aeroplane.
The exhibition of the laureates’ works was on display on the mezzanine in the Main Hangar of the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow from 1 October to 14 November 2024.
We warmly invite you!
