Location: Main Hangar
The aim of the exhibition was to commemorate one of the most distinguished Polish fighter units in the West — the Polish Fighting Team (Polski Zespol Walczacy), known as Skalski’s Circus. It was an elite group of experienced pilots from various Polish squadrons who volunteered to fight against the Germans and Italians in North Africa alongside Allied air forces in the spring of 1943.
Between 28 March and 6 May 1943, fifteen Polish pilots commanded by Captain Stanislaw Skalski shot down 25 confirmed, 3 probable, and damaged 9 German and Italian aircraft.
The exhibition featured, among other items, British sun goggles in a case, a tropical Bush Jacket, a British Mk II helmet in desert camouflage, a Polish Air Force cap, a Polish Air Forces in the West pilot’s jacket with the PFT “Skalski’s Circus” badge, and a 1:32 scale model of the Spitfire Mk IX ZX-1. The exhibition was arranged in the form of a diorama.
