The oldest example of the Mi-2 in Poland.

In late 1950s studies on a successor of Mi‑1 began in the USSR. The new helicopter was to be turbine powered and capable of carrying 8 passengers. Klimov design bureau commenced studies on the GTD‑350 turboshaft engine, based on American Allison 250. The prototype V‑2 helicopter first flew in 1961. Series production, under designation Mi‑2 began in 1963. In 1964 Poland was granted the license and in 1965 production at WSK Świdnik factory began. WSK Rzeszów undertook production of GTD‑350 engines.

The Mi‑2 is a very universal machine. In civil aviation the Mi‑2s are still used for transport, pilot training and patrolling. The Mi‑2s are also operated by the police. Several military versions were designed: transport/medevac, passenger, rescue, dual control trainer, chemical reconnaissance and for aerial photography. On the basis of Mi‑2 the PZL Kania (Kitty Hawk) helicopter was designed, powered by Rolls Royce/Allison 250 engines and fitted with Bendix/King avionics.

The example on display is the oldest Mi‑2 in Poland. It served with 47th Liaison and Medical Air Regiment, 49th Liaison and Transport Air Squadron, 37th Transport Helicopter Regiment, 6th Fighter-Bomber Aviation Regiment and 3rd Fighter Aviation Regiment. It was donated to the Museum in 2006.
